Halloween 2015

Hi everyone. Happy Halloween! Mine hasn't been all that great unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, not least of which is the complete lack of celebration it gets in Australia, resulting in a decidedly unfitting atmosphere, making it feel like just another day. *sigh*

Well anyway, I celebrated by preparing some snacks the night before-Some custard and jelly, and coconut chocolate balls-and watching the complete run of short-lived supernatural comedy series Dead Gorgeous.Despite how down I was feeling, that awesome show is always enough to raise my spirits.

As for my yearly Halloween poetry tradition, well obviously I've been feeling way too bleh today to pen anything, and I'm way too tired to now, given it's almost midnight. Instead, I'll make a separate post for them. And yes, I said 'them'. I'm going to write a few spooky poems! Inspiration courtesy of the awesome Emilie Rommel Shimkus!

So, to close, I hope everyone has had a fantastic Halloween, and I wish you all good luck!...

  1. Happy Halloween! Or maybe a belated one? Sounds like you made the most of the night. Especially for someone who lives in a country where this holiday isn't a big deal. Good for you for putting out the effort! Custard and jelly? I'm trying to imagine that dish. Maybe that's a cultural difference thing and I'd recognize it by another name? The chocolate coconut balls sound good! I'm getting ready to do some baking soon too. I'll be baking some kind of bread and cutting it into different shapes with Halloween cookie cutters.

I don't think I knew about Dead Gorgeous before now. Looks like a different and cute idea for a show.

  2. You...you don't know what jelly is? *shakes head*, Oh, America... ;) Jelly is jell-o to you guys. As for having them together, that's just a me thing. And indeed, the chocolate balls are delicious! I'll send you the recipe if you'd like. Is peanut butter available in America?

That sounds wonderful! Good luck, Justine!

I highly recommend it. Have a great Halloween, Justine, and thanks for commenting!

  3. Aww... sorry to hear the day was a bit unexceptional for you. Actually, things are getting quite Halloweenie in Melbourne these days. We had a reasonable turnout of trick or treaters. In fact, we nearly ran out of chocolate bars for them. And when we went out earlier in the day, there were quite a few people already wandering about the shopping centre in costumes.

I didn't have a lot of time for decorating this year, but we still had candles and a jack-o'-lantern. I also bought a couple of "bleeding candles" in skull holders this year from Dusk (do you have Dusk in Perth?) They worked beautifully! They are black with a red centre that liquifies and looks like blood dripping down the sides. :D

I'm glad 'Dead Gorgeous' was able to raise your spirits!

  4. Thanks. I'm glad you had a much better day than I.

Awesome! You're such a kind Halloween spirit, Emma!

No idea, nor do I live in Perth.

Those sound like really cool candles!

My first ever pumpkin carving went surprisingly well! I'll send you photos soon! :)

    1. Really? I don't know why I thought you lived in Perth...

Look forward to seeing the pumpkin shots. :)
